چکیده

While working on the heart of Rana tigrina by the perfusion method recommended by Burridge (1935), I started with a fairly concentrated solution of pure synthetic thiamin chloride in concentration of one part in 1,000 of Ringer and watched the results. No sooner the drug was perfused than the heart, which had been beating normally so far, was suddenly arrested in diastole and remained as such throughout the jperiod of drug perfusion. It, however, started beating strongly again when the Ringer was reperfused (see figure 1, plate

Nutritional Cytopenia in Monkeys Receiving the Goldberger Diet

Experiments are reported upon young rhesus monkeys which were given a diet essentially the same as the Goldberger black tongue-producing diet, supplemented in various ways. Those receiving the unsupplemented diet developed the syndrome characterized by leucopenia, anemia, gingivitis, diarrhea, and death, which has been previously described in monkeys receiving our diet of refined foodstuffs. An...

Changes of Trigonelline, Nicotinic Acid and Proline Content in Early Growth Stages of Trigonella foenum-graecum L. under Saline Condition

Background: Some health-protecting secondary metabolites can be found at a higher concentration in the sprouts compared to other stages of plant growth. In addition, environmental stresses such as salt stress may be resulting in the increase or decrease of specific secondary metabolites in sprouts and plants. Objective: Evaluation the changes of trigonelline, nicotinic acid, and proline cont...
